Be the Change

Change…it’s a scary word to most. It’s foreign, unfamiliar, and difficult. However, it is necessary to grow. Necessary to thrive. Necessary to make not only life, but the world so much better. We all know things need to change. Our world needs to be cleaned up of all the garbage and people need to be more understanding of one another. We need to stop the fighting and the judgement and the hate.

We tell our children not to hit and use their words, but as adults we don’t seem to have the ability to communicate. We want them to be leaders, to have it better than when we were raised, yet they are watching our potential future leaders bully and condemn and belittle people who are different then they are. Sadly, America has become a joke to the world in which we pride ourselves in protecting. It’s really a depressing situation and it needs to change.

We are raised to think and believe that there are certain ways to do things, certain restraints and restrictions that society has put on us. Our parents and grandparents are looking at us like we’re just young and don’t “get it” and don’t understand, that we don’t know, that this world is falling apart.  The last one is true…our world is falling apart. Our oceans are filled with garbage. Our nature is dying. Our faces and hands are glued to electronics, wasting time. There is so much disease and mental illness plaguing our county. What can we do about it? What can we change? We are just one person in this world. We can’t stop a war. We can’t stop the election process. We can’t rewrite the constitution to make it make sense for the world we live in today. We have yet to find a cure for cancer. The excuses go on… So, how do we do it? We do it by taking some accountability and start by changing ourselves, by changing our perspective, by thinking outside of the box.  We recognize what we CAN do rather than what we CAN’T.

As scary as change is…that is your answer…we CHANGE! We, as individuals, become the change we want to see. I have always believed that I was a world changer and I could do it one interaction at a time. I had a friend once tell me that I was indeed a world changer and the world I was starting with was my own. That was the best, and most profound compliment I could ask for! That is exactly how it starts…with us.  Looking inside of ourselves and healing from all the pain, the suffering, the disappointment, the issues that we have endured through our life. Fearlessly diving in and figuring out what WE believe, not what we were told to believe. If we uncover who we are first  we can then be in our complete power to influence others…we then become world changers.

I’m not saying that you alone, by yourself will be able to do it all…but what happens if you influence just one person, who goes on to influence another, and another until they are influencing crowds of people and then maybe one of those people influence a state, then a country, then another country, until it eventually becomes the world! Just think, that if there are 100 “you’s” in the world living and breathing the same concept. Think of what we could do. I know I’ve been influenced by many, and it’s made me exactly who I am today.

It’s ironic to me at how much push back I have gotten when going through this process. I have been viewed as being selfish and conceited, having an “all about me,” attitude. Well, guess what? I couldn’t really change me until I started to focus on yourself! The old saying of, “Before we can fully love another you must love yourself,” really has so much truth to it. I want to change it up a bit and add, “You cannot full accept and thrive with another until you can fully accept and thrive within yourself.”    Since I have done this I am a better mom, because I am becoming a leader and inspiring my children to believe in themselves. I am a better friend, because I am able to help them in their process figuring out where they are stuck in life and to help them thrive. I am adding value in the community because I have started Rainy Days Foundation, a non profit organization that help families with sudden loss and give them hope of healing. I could not be fulfilling my mission here on earth to this extent if it wasn’t perfectly clear with who I am and what it is I believed for myself was true.

So, how do we change the world?  It’s time to fearlessly look inside ourselves. It’s time to be open to healing, acceptance, and love, and become the change we want to see!
